Where these rates come from
Shopify shows card rates only on its pricing page, which changes by the visitor’s country. The US card rates below come from that page as indexed by search engines and are checked against Shopify’s help center; we could not load the US version directly. Third-party transaction fees are taken from the pricing page itself. Confirm the rate in your Shopify admin before relying on it.
Shopify Payments rates in the United States
- Basic: 2.9% + 30¢ online, 2.6% + 10¢ in person.
- Grow: 2.7% + 30¢ online, 2.5% + 10¢ in person.
- Advanced: 2.5% + 30¢ online, 2.4% + 10¢ in person.
- Currency conversion: 1.5% when the payment currency differs from your payout currency.
- Shopify Payments has no setup or monthly fees of its own beyond your plan.
Third-party payment providers
If you use another provider instead of Shopify Payments, Shopify adds its own transaction fee on online orders: 2% on Basic, 1% on Grow, 0.6% on Advanced and 0.2% on Plus. It is not charged on POS orders or manual payment methods. With a provider charging 2.9% + 30¢, a $100.00 order on Basic costs $5.20 instead of $3.20 with Shopify Payments.
Worked examples
A $100.00 online order on Basic costs $3.20 and you keep $96.80. On Grow the same order costs $3.00. Paid in person on Basic it costs $2.70, and with currency conversion online $4.70. To keep exactly $100.00 from an online order on Basic, charge $103.30.
