Amazon FBA fees 2026: referral, fulfillment and storage fees

Selling through Fulfillment by Amazon in 2026 costs four main things: a selling plan, a referral fee on every sale, an FBA fulfillment fee on every unit shipped, and a monthly storage fee for the space your inventory takes up. For a typical 25 USD product they add up to about 9.25 USD per unit, or 37% of the price, before your own product and shipping costs.

Below is every fee with the current US rates from Amazon Seller Central, how each one is calculated, and a worked example. If you are new to FBA, start with our guide What Is Amazon FBA.

1. Selling plan

The Professional plan costs 39.99 USD a month and is what almost every FBA seller uses: it unlocks advertising, the Buy Box and bulk tools. The Individual plan has no monthly fee but charges 0.99 USD per item sold, so it only makes sense below about 40 sales a month.

2. Referral fees by category

Amazon takes a percentage of the total sale price, including shipping and gift wrap charges. Most categories have a 0.30 USD minimum per item.

3. FBA fulfillment fees

The fulfillment fee covers picking, packing, shipping and customer service for each unit. It depends on three things:

  • Size tier: small standard, large standard, small bulky, large bulky or extra-large.

  • Shipping weight: for large standard and bulky items, the greater of the unit weight and the dimensional weight (length × width × height in inches ÷ 139).

  • Price band: under 10 USD (Low-Price FBA rates, on average 0.86 USD cheaper), 10–50 USD, or over 50 USD (0.26 USD more per unit in standard tiers).

Why dimensional weight matters: a 1.2 lb product in a 12 × 8 × 4 inch box has a dimensional weight of 2.76 lb, so it is charged as a 2.75+ to 3 lb item: 6.67 USD instead of 5.04 USD. A tighter box can save more than 1.50 USD on every unit.

4. Monthly inventory storage fees

Storage is charged per cubic foot of the space your units occupy, based on the daily average volume, and billed between the 7th and 15th of the following month.

Period

Standard-size

Oversize

Dangerous goods, standard-size

January – September

0.78 USD per cu ft

0.56 USD per cu ft

0.99 USD per cu ft

October – December

2.40 USD per cu ft

1.40 USD per cu ft

3.63 USD per cu ft

A product in a 0.1 cubic foot box costs about 0.08 USD a month to store from January to September and 0.24 USD from October to December.

Storage utilization surcharge. Larger, older accounts pay extra when stock sits too long. It applies only if all of these are true: you are on the Professional plan, your first shipment to Amazon was more than 365 days ago, you store at least 25 cubic feet on average in that size tier, and your storage utilization ratio (stored volume ÷ weekly shipped volume over 13 weeks) is above 22 weeks. The surcharge for standard-size items ranges from 0.44 USD per cubic foot at 22–28 weeks to 1.88 USD at 52+ weeks, and applies only to units stored more than 30 days. New sellers and accounts storing 25 cubic feet or less pay the base rate only.

5. Other FBA fees you may see

  • Low-inventory-level fee: charged on units shipped when your stock of a standard or bulky product falls below 28 days of supply.

  • Inbound placement service fee: depends on how many warehouses your shipment is split across.

  • Returns processing fee: for products whose return rate is above the threshold for their category.

  • Removal and disposal fees: when you ask Amazon to send back or dispose of inventory.

  • Overmax handling fee: for extra-large items over 96 inches on the longest side or 130 inches length plus girth.

How to lower your FBA fees

  • Shrink the box. Dimensional weight often pushes a light product into a heavier tier.

  • Watch the price thresholds. Below 10 USD you get Low-Price FBA rates; above 50 USD the fulfillment fee rises again.

  • Do not overstock before Q4. Storage triples from October to December; send what will sell within a few weeks.

  • Keep enough stock. Falling below 28 days of supply triggers the low-inventory-level fee.

  • Compare with FBM for heavy, bulky or slow-selling items using the FBA vs FBM calculator.

For standard-size items, 0.78 USD per cubic foot a month from January to September and 2.40 USD from October to December. Oversize items cost 0.56 and 1.40 USD. Some larger accounts also pay a storage utilization surcharge.

What is the Amazon referral fee?

How can I reduce my FBA fees?

Use smaller packaging to lower dimensional weight, mind the 10 and 50 USD price thresholds, avoid overstocking before October when storage triples, keep at least 28 days of supply to avoid the low-inventory-level fee, and compare FBM for heavy or slow-selling items.
