How the Offsite Ads fee works

  • When a buyer clicks one of Etsy’s ads outside Etsy and then buys, the order carries an Offsite Ads fee of 15% of the order.
  • Shops with 10,000 USD or more in sales over the previous 365 days pay the reduced rate of 12%.
  • The fee never exceeds 100 USD per order, so very large orders pay a smaller percentage.
  • Etsy counts orders placed within a set attribution window after the click. Check Etsy’s help page for the current length.
  • On Etsy’s fee page the base for the percentage is the order total. This calculator applies it to item price plus shipping.

A worked example

Take a $40.00 item with $6.00 shipping, costing $12.00 plus $5.00 to ship, with a US account. As an organic order it nets $24.38. Through Offsite Ads at the standard 15% the fee is $6.90 and net falls to $17.48. At the reduced 12% the fee is $5.52 and net is $18.86.

When the cap starts to matter

The 100 USD cap applies once the order total passes $666.67 at the standard rate or $833.33 at the reduced rate. For most shops that is rare, but for furniture, art and other high-ticket items it can save real money. The calculator shows this threshold for your rate.

Can you avoid the fee?

According to Etsy, shops under 10,000 USD of sales in the previous 365 days can opt out of Offsite Ads, while bigger shops cannot. Rules change, so check the current program terms in your Shop Manager. If you cannot opt out, price for it: build the fee into the price of products that tend to sell through ads.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Offsite Ads fee on Etsy?

It is 15% of the order for shops under 10,000 USD in sales over 365 days and 12% above that, capped at 100 USD per order. It is charged only on orders that came through Etsy’s ads.

Which rate applies to my shop?

Etsy bases the rate on your shop’s sales over the previous 365 days. Enter that figure in the calculator and it picks 15% or 12% automatically.

Does the cap really save money?

Yes, on large orders. At 15% the cap applies from $666.67, so an order of $1,500.00 pays $100.00 instead of $225.00.

Is the fee charged on shipping too?

Etsy bases the fee on the order total. This calculator applies the rate to item price plus shipping. Compare with a real order statement from your shop to confirm for your case.

How do I know which of my orders came from ads?

Etsy marks them in your order details and payment account statement with an Offsite Ads fee line. Count those lines to find your share, then use it in the Etsy profit calculator.
