Mercari Fees 2026: Seller Fees, Buyer Protection and Mercari vs eBay
Mercari seller fees for 2026: the 10% selling fee on item and shipping, the 3.6% Buyer Protection fee, cash-out costs, examples and Mercari vs eBay fees.
Mercari charges sellers a 10% selling fee on the item price plus any shipping the buyer pays. There is no separate payment processing fee and no listing fee. On a $50 item with no shipping charged, Mercari takes $5 and you earn $45. Buyers pay their own 3.6% Buyer Protection fee on top, which does not come out of your earnings.
These are the Mercari seller fees that have applied since 6 January 2025, taken from Mercari’s own fee page. Below is how they work in practice, why the 10% fee often feels like more, what cashing out costs, and how Mercari compares with eBay, Poshmark and Depop.

| Listing fee | Nobody | Free |

Does Mercari have seller fees?
Yes. Before 6 January 2025 sellers paid no selling fee, and buyers paid a 10% buyer fee plus payment processing of 2.9% + $0.50. From that date Mercari switched the cost to sellers: they pay a 10% selling fee on every sale, buyers pay a smaller 3.6% Buyer Protection fee, and the payment processing fee was dropped. Listings created before that date moved to the new structure as soon as they were updated, and Mercari updated the remaining ones automatically.
How much does Mercari take?
With no shipping charged to the buyer, Mercari takes exactly 10%:
| Item price | Mercari fee | You earn |
|---|---|---|
| $10 | $1.00 | $9.00 |
| $25 | $2.50 | $22.50 |
| $50 | $5.00 | $45.00 |
| $100 | $10.00 | $90.00 |
| $200 | $20.00 | $180.00 |
Unlike Poshmark there is no minimum or flat fee, so Mercari stays cheap even on low-priced items.

Many sellers notice that their fee is higher than 10% of the item price. That is because the 10% is charged on the item price plus the shipping the buyer pays, even though that shipping money goes straight to the label.
- $25 item, buyer pays $8 shipping: fee is 10% of $33 = $3.30, which is 13.2% of the item price. You earn $21.70.
- $25 item, you offer free shipping with an $8 label: fee is 10% of $25 = $2.50, but the $8 label comes out of your earnings, leaving $14.50.
So free shipping lowers the fee itself but costs you more overall. The cheapest option depends on whether free shipping helps the item sell faster or at a higher price.
The Mercari Buyer Protection fee
Since 6 January 2025 buyers pay a Buyer Protection fee of 3.6% of the item price plus buyer-paid shipping. On a $50 item with $8 shipping, the buyer pays $60.09 before sales tax. This fee goes to Mercari and is not deducted from you, but it raises the buyer’s total, which is worth remembering when you compare your price with the same item on another app.
Cashing out: what Mercari charges
- Direct deposit: free. The $2 per cash-out fee was removed on 6 January 2025. A failed deposit still costs $2.
- Instant Pay: $3 per transfer to an eligible debit card, up to $600 a month, once a day.
If you don’t need the money the same day, direct deposit saves $3 on every cash-out.
Mercari shipping labels
Mercari sells prepaid USPS, UPS and FedEx labels at discounted rates, priced by weight. From 19 October 2026, for example, a USPS Ground Advantage label for up to 1 lb costs $7.99 at the best rate when you enter package dimensions. If your package is heavier or larger than the label you chose, you pay the difference. Whoever pays for shipping, the label price is what to enter in the calculator above.
Mercari vs eBay fees
Mercari is cheaper than eBay on fees for most items. eBay’s final value fee in most categories is 13.6% of the total sale plus $0.40 per order (on orders over $10), charged on the item, shipping and sales tax.
| Same sale | Mercari | eBay |
|---|---|---|
| $25 item, no shipping | $2.50 | $3.80 |
| $50 item, no shipping | $5.00 | $7.20 |
| $50 item + $8 shipping | $5.80 | $8.29 |
| $100 item, no shipping | $10.00 | $14.00 |
eBay’s advantage is reach: a much larger buyer base, auctions and international sales. Many resellers list on both and accept the first sale. Check your own numbers in the eBay fee calculator.
Mercari vs Poshmark, Depop and Whatnot
On a $50 sale with no shipping, here is what each resale app takes in the US:
| App | How it charges | Fee on $50 |
|---|---|---|
| Depop | 3.3% + $0.45 payment processing | $2.10 |
| Mercari | 10% selling fee | $5.00 |
| Whatnot | 8% commission + 2.9% + $0.30 processing | $5.75 |
| Poshmark | 20% on sales of $15 and up | $10.00 |
Mercari sits in the middle: more expensive than Depop, cheaper than Poshmark, and a good fit for items outside fashion, such as electronics, toys and home goods. Compare any price in the Depop, Poshmark and Whatnot calculators, or see all of them in the resale app calculators.
How to keep more of each Mercari sale
- Weigh and measure before listing. Entering dimensions unlocks the lower label rates and avoids overage charges.
- Price shipping into the item when it helps. Free shipping lowers the fee base, and buyers often prefer one all-in price.
- Bundle small items. One shipped bundle costs far less in labels than several separate orders.
- Cash out by direct deposit. It is free; Instant Pay costs $3 every time.
